New Tool: LEG Price Calculator

The calculation of whether a local electricity community is worthwhile is simple: grid usage discount minus service fee, times LEG share, times annual consumption. Yet hardly anyone does it before signing the membership declaration, presumably because the relevant figures are spread across three different rate sheets. The new LEG Price Calculator makes them available in seconds.

What the calculator can do

For consumers: Enter annual consumption, grid rate, discount level (20 or 40 percent), expected LEG share, and the provider’s service fee; the calculator shows the effect per kilowatt-hour and per year, in Swiss francs and including VAT. The finding derived in the blog that, with the standard EKZ offering, the discount and fee cancel each other out exactly can not only be verified with it, but also applied to your own situation: a different grid rate, a different fee, a different discount, and the calculation quickly tips one way or the other.

For producers: Anyone who has or is planning a solar installation can compare selling to the LEG with standard feed-in remuneration (reference market price with minimum remuneration and revenue from guarantees of origin), separately for the summer and winter half-years, including the cap imposed by the eligibility limit.

All rates are preloaded with the public EKZ figures for 2026 and can be freely overridden; this means the calculator works for any grid area whose rate sheet is available.

What the calculator deliberately does not do

It does not forecast a LEG share. How many of your own kilowatt-hours are actually covered locally in each 15-minute interval depends on the production and consumption patterns of the entire community; the only honest approach is a range, not false precision. The slider covers the plausible range, and the result can show the spread as well if needed.

Like all tools here the calculator runs entirely in the browser: no sign-in, no server, and the inputs never leave the device.
